about

A live Berlin School, Kosmiche Musik, 100 minute performance in one take on a solo ARP 2600 (clone) - for this album split into four self contained sections. I used one SQ1 sequencer to create two lines into the three 2600 oscillators, sometimes playing the rotary controls of the the SQ1 as a melodic instrument (no keyboard was used btw!), a Volca Beats to provide some background kick and hihat and the tiny NTS1 for delay and reverb. Much of the complexity of the piece comes from using the 3 oscillators independently, and also doubling two up into left and right of the stereo field as non envelope shaped and filtered. This combined with extensive use of noise effectively gave me 6 sound sources, in various combinations, out of a single, solo 2600.

History: I was lucky to have an original / real Arp2600 to use for half a year back in the late 1980s when I was an engineer/producer, and also back in 2004 I was one of the first to use Arturia's emulation of the 2600 on a mac, but great to now own something close to the original.
